NDIS refers to National Disability Insurance Scheme. NDIS supports eligible people with various forms of disability including physical, intellectual, sensory, cognitive and psychosocial disability to improve their skills and independence.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent organisation managing the NDIS.

There are 5 main eligibility criteria depending on age, residency and disability.

  • Age between 7 to 65 years old.
  • Australian citizen or people having permanent residency or protected special category visa.
  • Requires assistance due to permanent or significant disability.
  • Requires special equipment because of permanent or significant disability.
  • Requires early intervention to a person or child to minimise the impacts of disability or development delay.

If you meet the eligibility criteria you can become a participant, you can either: 

  • Call NDIS on 1800 800 110 and ask to make an Access Request 

  • Complete and submit the Access Request Form and send via email to NAT@ndis.gov.au or 

  • Contact your local LAC or NDIA office or 

The NDIS may fund the following types of supports for participants: 

  • Transportation for everyday personal activities in order to participate in community, social, economic, and daily life activities. 

  • Workplace assistance to assist a participant in obtaining or maintaining employment in the open or subsidised labour market. 

  • Therapeutic supports include behaviour support assistance with household tasks to allow the participants to maintain their home environment, and assistance from skilled personnel in aids or equipment assessment, setup, and training, home modification design and construction, mobility equipment, and vehicle modifications.
